Characters Name: Nasubi
Age: demons don't age like humans do, so Nasubi is probably older than he looks. The series does not give a clear information of their ages but is probably a little younger than other ogres due to the height, so let's say he's around17 for now. bumped down to 16 for now to fit better with backstory
Canon: Hoozuki no Reitetsu
Canon Point: Episode 13 of the anime
Species: Demon
Gender: Male
Orientation: predominately heterosexual, but would be okay being with another guy.
History: Wikipdia page. The series itself is a daily-life(?) series centering around Hoozuki.
Nasubi's profile page.
Ever since he was little, Nasubi had the talents in arts and crafts. Due to his family being too poor to support him in going down that path, Nasubi kept his talents as his hobby as he picked up the job as a minion working in hell alongside his friend, Karauri. Cleaning the Sanzu River as well as training in various different hells (derived from Buddhism's ideas of hell), mainly in the Eight Hot "Hells". During their training to become a full-pledged minion specializing in torturing souls who fell to hell for their sins during their lifetime, including participating in Hell's Minion Sports Day which measures each demon's performance.
At first, Nasubi thought Hoozuki, his superior, was scary and someone in a completely different league. But with the run-in with Momotaro causing a ruckus and Nasubi unable to do anything but call Hoozuki to resolve the situation, Nasubi was able to get to know Hoozuki a little more than just a strict unapproachable superior. He, with Karauri, was able to have more personal lectures while doing their tasks, such as having a conversation about origins of certain music while cleaning the Sanzu River, learning more about how each hell worked, and so forth. There were so many things to learn for this spaced-out demon, and he would have his screw ups now and then, such as miscounting inventory and whatnot.
One day, while he and his best friend, Karauri, were on a break from work and Nasubi sketching, Hoozuki came up to them to ask about Nasubi's hobby. This eventually led to Hoozuki visiting Nasubi's room where it was full of crafts and arts, and Hoozuki decided to request Nasubi to work on a mural on a wall where an older art piece done by a famous historical Japanese artist had faded away due to damage from the heat and wind. It was an enjoyable task for the three, as well as an honorable job for Nasubi, to paint over his favorite artist's painting.
Even with all sorts of difficult tasks and screw ups, Nasubi still likes having the job as a minion of hell, for on the final day of the Bon festival, he would be able to participate in dragging the deceased back from the living world back to the afterlife.
Appearance: general appearance
His horns and demon fangs will be gone upon arrival, as well as his ears be replaced with human ones.
Personality:
Nasubi is a "slightly" spaced-out demon working as a minion of hell. He has an extremely hard time focusing at his tasks, which causes him to make lots of mistakes. He's a slow learner as well so if it weren't for Karauri, his best friend, helped him out with finding the job as a minion, he would have been jobless after graduating from a demon school in hell. Nasubi tries his hardest to complete tasks given to him, though. In fact, his slow demeanor prevents him from easily losing his cool like Karauri and can deal with crucial situations better by rationally dealing with it. He's still inexperienced as a minion, so he can't go to all kinds of situation calmly like Hoozuki does.
He may be lax, but Nasubi has difficulty dealing with being in the spotlight in front of a large crowd. Giving speeches for winning in art competitions was never something he liked, and would barely be able to talk normally when he was required. Formulating words isn't Nasubi's strength as well, so that makes it worse for when he's giving a gratification speech. Between himself and Karauri, Nasubi's definitely the quieter one. His inability to handle large crowds, formulating speeches, along with coming from a poor family, never gave Nasubi the determination to follow down the path as an artist, and is comfortable working as a minion of Hell for the majority of the year.
It's easy to describe Nasubi as a spaced-out demon not paying attention to details, but it's not to say he doesn't think at all. He actually thinks a lot about various things, but it's more or less his inability to stay focused on one thing at a time. Even when Karauri and himself are getting special lectures from Hoozuki, Nasubi tends to let his mind, and sometimes even his body, wander off to things that catch his interest. He cares a lot for his friend, and it's also where he tries to be as thoughtful as he can when regarding Karauri. It's just that he only speaks what comes to his mind and seems thoughtless with his actions that it doesn't seem like Nasubi think much.
Without Karauri around, Nasubi becomes quieter, if he isn't quiet enough already. As with not being able to handle large crowds, it seems as though he isn't as sociable as his friend, who does most of the talking even when the two are together. He's not completely dependent on his friend and acts and speaks up when it's absolutely necessary, but otherwise lingers in the back to listen and watch things unfold. He's a little lazy on the part of speaking and taking the initiative, and rather go along with the flow instead.
Abilities:
- He is really good at arts and crafts. Extremely good that Hoozuki got impressed and requested him to draw a mural for a wall. That's about it for his abilities.
- He does have a special kind of paint made from stones from Hell, which causes whatever he paints to become animated as if it were real. The painting is not completely real, though; it cannot get out from whatever it is drawn on.
Other: Wears kimono 24/7.

[The video is from a cellphone capture, and the feed starts with the nice sunny and blue sky before shifting around. A child-like voice is heard.]
Hmmm... I know humans use these but they're a hassle...
[The feed finally turns to the user, and Nasubi gives a blank look at the screen before tilting his head.]
What was I supposed to say? ...Oh, right. [He clears his voice before waving at the screen.]
Hello. My name is Nasubi. I worked as a minion in Hell before I came here.
[He goes quiet for a moment, looking elsewhere before looking back at the screen.] Uh... I don't know what else to say. Karauri does most of the talking when he's around, but he's not here...
[He trails off again.]
People told me there's things you can buy here, including art stuff. I made my own paints in Hell, but I do want to try out other kinds of medium outside of what I use usually. I think I'll do that, yep. [He gives a nod to that.]
I don't know what kinds of food are here either. Do you guys have suggestions?
Third Person:
Nasubi gazed at the stores in the shopping area, confused, his arms folded across his chest. Humans sure had a ton of things they would rarely use. Why did they think having so many things would be a good thing? There was probably a hell for greedy people like that, but at the moment he was having a hard time remembering the actual name for it. Seeing how no one had a permanent death in this strange world, these people may perhaps never see the glimpse of the Sanzu River.
"Nnn... Oh, right. I was here for paint brushes." Nasubi reminded himself, pulling himself away from the display of countless artifacts. He was glad pay for food was free in this world, he could use all the money he earned to get art materials. Only thing he didn't exactly like about the art store was that there were far too many items to look at.
When he realized what he was originally planning to get, he had used up all of his earnings on various canvases, paint, brushes, as well as other tools he did not have a chance of using while in Hell before, as well as the entire afternoon used up.
As he left the store with numerous boxes, he stared at the sun setting in the distance.
"Oh, look at the nice sunset... You never get to see that in Hell."
